HOLY DAYS

Feast & Fast Days of the Church Year

ASH WEDNESDAY

Our Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper is filled with fun fellowship, and helps us end one season joy before the day of the Lenten fast,  Ash Wednesday. It is the start of the season of Lent. Services at 12 & 7 p.m. with the imposition of ashes upon the forehead remind us that we are dust and to dust we shall return. All of our hope is in a loving God.
PALM SUNDAY

Two services (8 & 10 a.m.) begin in the parish hall with special prayers, and then the congregation processes through the breezeway and into the church nave singing a triumphant hymn, recalling to mind Jesus' triumphant entry into Jerusalem. The congregation participates in reading the Passion narrative from the Gospel.
HOLY WEEK

Palm Sunday begins Holy Week, the week of worship leading up to Easter. Holy Week helps us recall the love Christ poured out for his disciples, in service by washing their feet, and by being willing to be betrayed and suffer death.
There is usually a service each night of Holy Week at 7:00 p.m.

HOLY MON. - WED.

On Holy Monday we walk the stations of the cross at noon. On Holy Tuesday we have a 7:00 pm service with Holy Communion and guest preacher. On Holy Wednesday we typically have Tenebrae (service of light and shadows) at 7:00 p.m.
MAUNDY THURSDAY

We remember Jesus' last supper with his disciples with an agape supper at 6:15 p.m., and a service following at 7:00 p.m. The service includes the stripping of the altar and church adornments. The sanctuary remains empty like a tomb and open for those who wish to pray and keep watch.
GOOD FRIDAY

We remember Jesus' death on the cross in a service of solemn collects, prayers and anthems at 10:00 a.m. At 12:oo p.m. we join an ecumenical Good Friday service at Stanwood United Methodist focused on Jesus' 7 last words. At 7:00 pm we have a Good Friday 'Selah' service with music, silence & prayers.

EASTER VIGIL

The Great Vigil of Easter starts outside in St Aidan's Celtic Garden. A fire is kindled at sundown and from it we light the Easter Candle, or Pascal Candle, and carry it into the church. Each participant lights his or her own candle from the Easter Candle and the celebration continues with songs, psalms, readings from scripture, and an Easter sermon.
EASTER DAY

The joy of Christ's resurrection is greeted with shouts of Alleluia! and joyful hymns of praise at 10:00 a.m. An interactive children's sermon is shared with children 12 and under. An Easter message is preached and Holy Communion is share by all who wish to partake.

PENTECOST

We celebrate the Church's birthday, the coming of the Holy Spirit to the disciples empowering them to carry on Jesus' ministry of love. Everybody wears red, festival balloons fill the space, and the Gospel passage is read in many languages.
PAWS PRAYERS & PRAISE

A service where you can worship with your pets. It's for everybody - the faithful or the curious, the two-legged or the four-legged. Offered seasonally, typically  in the summer months at 5:30 p.m. on the 3rd or 4th Sunday of the month.
(suspended temporarily)
ST FRANCIS DAY

St Francis is said to have "preached to the birds." Even though materially poor, he lived with grace and abundance through God's simple gifts found in creation and throughout life..  On this Sunday we bring our pets - furry, winged or scaled - to church and bless them.

ALL SAINTS

All Saints Day (Nov 1) commemorates the saints of the church - past and present - and gives thanks to God for their life and witness to Jesus Christ. Scripture teaches us that God is God of the living, not the dead. We celebrate the saints alive in Christ, on whose shoulders we stand in many ways. We bring pictures of saints from our lives and place them throughout the church for All Saints Sunday (Nov 4, 2018).
WEEKDAY EUCHARIST

Each Wednesday we have a service of Holy Communion, with healing prayers and anointing with oil offered as well. Each week we choose a saint from history and reflect on that saint's life and how God's grace worked through them. The service begins at 10:00 a.m.

Location

You are welcome at St Aidan's.

We often carry heavy burdens and the world around us can sometimes leave us feeling more anxious than loving or peaceful. Having a place to find rest, to connect with the truest and deepest parts of ourselves, and to practice Jesus' way of love gives us the strength we need for the journey God has for each of us.

No matter who you are, or where you are on the journey of faith, God welcomes you and loves you. And so does St Aidan's, Camano Island!

The Rev. Drew Foisie, Vicar
